1. Scope and Introduction

We recognize that engineers, medical safety officers, quality management auditors, and corporate operations leaders use Ishikawa diagrams to investigate critical system defects, incident post-mortems, and confidential business processes. For this reason, we architected Fishbone Diagram Maker to function as a static, client-side web utility where data processing occurs entirely within the user's web browser sandbox.

2. Information We Never Collect or Transmit

Unlike conventional SaaS diagramming platforms, our servers do not have access to, receive, or store:

  • Your diagram titles, problem statements, or effect definitions
  • Category names, primary cause branches, secondary causes, or sub-tier causes
  • Root cause prioritization star ratings or annotations
  • 5 Whys drill-down dialogue responses and answers
  • Exported vector SVGs, PNG images, or JSON backup files
  • Corporate identities, team names, or project affiliations

At no point in time is your diagram payload transmitted to our servers or any third-party AI processing model.

3. Local Device Storage (localStorage)

To provide autosave functionality and preserve your work between browser sessions without requiring an account, the application stores data locally on your device via the standard W3C window.localStorage API.

Key: fishbone_autosave_data — Stores your current active diagram tree in serialized JSON format.
Key: fishbonemaker_dark_mode — Stores your visual appearance preference (true or false).

Control over your data: This information never leaves your machine. You can clear this data at any moment by clicking "New Diagram", clearing your browser's site data/cache, or using your browser's Developer Tools Storage inspector.

4. Server Logs & Edge Infrastructure

Like all websites, our hosting servers and content delivery networks (CDNs, such as Cloudflare or Vercel) automatically collect standard web server access logs when your browser requests web pages, stylesheet bundles, and JavaScript assets.

These logs may include:

  • Internet Protocol (IP) address
  • Browser type and version (User-Agent header)
  • Referring URL and requested file paths
  • Date and time stamps of requests

This data is processed solely for network traffic routing, detecting malicious Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, maintaining server uptime, and ensuring platform reliability. These technical logs are not tied to any personal profile or diagram content.

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Fishbone Diagram Maker operates with a strict Zero Tracking Cookie policy:

  • We do not set advertising cookies, remarketing cookies, or cross-site tracking beacons.
  • We do not sell, rent, or monetize your web traffic or browsing habits.
  • We do not use surveillance analytics or keystroke recorders.

6. Exported Assets and Complete User Ownership

When you click "Export SVG", "Export PNG", or "Print / PDF", the file is generated entirely within your browser's memory using HTML5 Canvas and SVG XML serialisation.

Because the diagram is created on your device, you retain 100% intellectual property ownership over all diagrams and analysis created with the tool. We claim zero rights, copyright, or ownership over your root cause findings.

7. User Rights (GDPR & CCPA/CPRA Compliance)

Under the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act / Consumer Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA):

  • Right of Access & Portability: You can export your entire diagram as a structured JSON file at any time directly through the Export modal.
  • Right to Deletion: You can permanently delete all local diagrams from your device instantly by clearing your browser's local storage. Since we hold no server copy, no data exists on our side to purge.
  • Do Not Sell or Share My Information: We do not sell or share personal information under any circumstance.

8. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Our Service is intended for general audiences, professionals, and students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Since no personal data or account registration is accepted on this site, child data is not collected.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may periodically update this Privacy Policy to reflect technical enhancements or regulatory adjustments. When changes occur, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the website following any posted modifications constitutes agreement to the updated policy.
